Animal registration is the core program of the Ayrshire Breeders'
Association. By accurately recording and tracking animal identity and
ancestral history, the association provides a valuable service by
helping its members determine which animals have the best opportunities
for transmitting superior genetics for production and functional type
traits from one generation to the next. The registration of eligible
Ayrshires contributes to a comprehensive database of valuable genetic
information used by members for making wise breeding decisions for
improved profitability. The data base also allows dairy industry
researchers to study factors which relate to reproduction efficiency,
milk composition and food safety, and economics.
The official animal identification and performance records of
registered Ayrshires support the credibility of breeders who sell their
cattle for premium value. Official registration application forms are
available from the Ayrshire Breeders' Association. Individual
registration fees are dependent upon membership status of the applicant
and age and gender of the animal. A listing of registry fees is
available from the ABA office.
